Artist Statement: This piece is an exploration of the "Um-al-Girih" ("mother of knots") family of designs found throughout the Islamic world which uses the Golden Ratio in every shape. These proportions are linked with the perceived movements of the planet Venus; Venus's association with the element copper is also echoed in the use of the copper-based pigment malachite.
