This painting questions either-or labels in religious narratives and the effect it may have on how people experience human weaknesses. We often present scriptural characters as one dimensional, and I wonder if that causes some to look at the villain box and hero box and wonder which one they, or others, fit into. The background images are derived from frescoes I saw while exploring a cliff top monastery in Meteora, Greece.
