Sharing Christ Through Art
The intersection of Christianity and traditional Chinese culture has been a fascinating and complex journey. Christianity arrived in China during the 7th century, but it didn’t take root until Jesuit missionaries reintroduced it in the 16th century. After 1949, foreign missionaries were expelled, and churches came under government-controlled institutions. Proselyting is strictly prohibited in China. Through my artwork, I sought to reinstate that Christ is the Lord for the whole world, regardless of races, nationalities, or peoples. My goal is to create artworks that would be recognizable to the Chinese and in a practice that they can relate to, and help them to understand the gospel principles. Art, regardless of style, medium, or discipline, is really a way to share the gospel.
